We Were There From The Beginning. (Apr 28, 1999)
(Part 1 of 3 Part Series) Just when and where baseball was first introduced into the black community is uncertain. Certainly, many urban blacks encountered the game prior to the Civil War, a period during which numerous semipro teams like the Cincinnati Red Stockings were forming in the east and midwest. Others were introduced to the game by Union solders during the Civil War.
