Minoso Becomes Only
Player Active In Seven Decades

Appearing as a designated hitter
for the St. Paul Saints last evening, 77-year-old Minnie Minoso
became the only player ever to appear in games during 7 decades.
Minoso was a star in the Cuban League, Negro National League (with
the New York Cubans in the 1940s) and in major league baseball (mostly
with the Chicago White Sox).
Who Ever Heard Of The Atlanta Cubs?

Not many folks today could remember,
but the Atlanta Black Crackers (who took the Negro American League
pennant in 1938) began life as the Atlanta Cubs. The club changed
it’s name in 1920 when it joined the newly organized Negro Southern
League. So says baseball historian Tim
Darnell in a recent interview with PBS affiliate, WABE.
