Thought I'd take the time to relate that my research project is going very good,and has picked up much momentum since Febuary'99.
This year so far I've been concentrating my efforts on gathering info material & pics on the
unique or lesser known teams – what some might call " Semi Pro Black Ball or Barnstorming Teams " that played mainly in the Southern tier of states,of Kentucky,Tennesee,Alabama,Oklahoma, Louisiana,and Texas.
Also a friend's father use to play with Coal Mining Teams that were sponsored by the
company owners in Pennsylvania & West Virginia in the 1940's.
In closing I'm looking for information & pics,or
contacts in regards to 3 Leagues : The Old Texas-
Oklahoma-Louisiana League (1930's-1950's), The
Texas Negro League,an the West Coast Baseball
Association (1940's) which had teams like the
Seattle Steelheads,Fresno Tigers,Oakland Larks,
Portland Rosebuds,SF Sea Lions, and the L.A. White Sox. Thanks,Gerard.

I am trying to get information and/or pics of players out of Raleigh, NC. thought there was a Raleigh team back in the late 1930's early 1940's. Is this correct? Was told that prison teams played some of the Negro League Team.

My name is David Garber and I've just been hired to write a feature film adaptation of the book, "Chappie And Me", an autobiography of John Craig. It tells of his summer (1939) with Chappie Johnson & His Colored All Stars. They were a barnstorming team that played their way across Canada and the U.S. I'm very anxious to talk to anyone with knowledge of the barnstorming lifestyle in 1938-40. It will help me tremendously in developing events that will shape the characters. I'd love hearing from you. And thanks. David

I'am looking for a picture of the 1946 EAST-WEST ALL-STAR GAME. The reason is my father palyed on the East team along with Josh Gibson and if I am not mistaken Minnie Minoso on that squad. league teams and their owner/manager J. Wilkinson.
He managed one team in Algona, Iowa called the
Algona Brownies for a brief time. Then just prior
to 1920, he lived in Des Moines and formed the
"All Nations Team" which (according to Buck
O'Neil's book and also the Negro League
Encyclopedia) featured not only black, hispanic
and asian players, but also women. Shortly
thereafter, "Wilkie" went on to Kansas City, where
he formed the Kansas City Monarchs. We are looking
for more information in context to Iowa – such as
details about the Algona Brownies or the All
Nations Team. Can anyone suggest a source o
