Anybody out there have any Gene Bremmer stories? I was born in Broadview, Saskatchewan, Canada in 1952. I now live outside Toronto. Broadview had an integrated semi-pro team in the late 1930's, and one of their players was a young pitcher in his early twenties named Gene Bremmer. This was before he pitched in a few Negro League East-West Games during the 1940's. I have in my possession a photograph of the 1937 Broadview Buffalos team, as they were called, taken in front of the local rail station. Bremmer is in the back row. Two other colored ballplayers are also in the photo–Lionel Decuir and Red Bogeill. Bremmer went on to pitch a total of 16 years in the Negro Leagues and was even listed in the Top 100 of Negro Leaguers by The Baseball Encyclopedia people.
I'm an author-historian who has been fascinated by Bremmer for years. I heard from relatives back in the 1970's that he was quite the pitcher for the Broadview team. It was this integrated team that sparked my interest in the Negro Leagues, enough so to write a novel about the subject. It's strange how such fascinations start, isn't it? it would be great to hear from somebody.

I'd love to hear from you. Am working on a history of semi-pro baseball on the prairies and am learning about connections with the Negro Leagues/Cuba. I didn't realize there were integrated teams that early. Also, do you have any information about semi-pro action in Sask? Having trouble digging up info on teams in Kamsack, Rosetown, etc. Thanks,
