It's true, that many blackleague ball players have earned the right, to be inducted within the hall of fame, however, it is not likely that all will be permitted in, hence lets make sure, that the very best do get in-those who's field records, speak the loudest!…at least, let these greatest, represent the entire blackleague baseball history…remember, some of the greatest, were not just african-american, but also had native-american, cuban, spanish and other blood, running through their veins too.., charleston, bell, williams and dihigo, to name a few, of the very best!

I was not able to spend as much time with him as I would have liked and I am requesting any info regrding him and his career. His name is Joe B. Scott. Joseph Burt Scott played for the Memphis Red Sox from 1945 to 1949. He was an outfielder and batted leadoff. In his last season he had a .289 batting average.

Joe Burt Scott is slighted in the literature. His playing days actually began in the 1930s and ended in the 1950s. I am giving myself a shameless plug, but next summer I will have a book published, The Negro Leagues Revisited, that will contain about 60 interviews with former Negro leaguers, inclduing Scott. It is a sequel to Voices from the Negro Leagues, which is available now from amazon.com as well as regular bookstores.

Interested to hear about your next book – I've read "Voices from the Negro Leagues" – it's a great addition to the historical literature on the Leagues.
I've written in a different forum on this website about my research on Negro League sportswriters, among them W.Rollo Wilson, and have asked contributors if they had any suggestions on resources outside of newspapers and books.
I was hoping to discover some relevant primary sources and may still but it occured to me, while reading your addition to the message board, that some of the players you may have interviewed may have had contact with Wilson and other sportswriters.
Would you be willing to recommend, based on your experience, a way to contact former players who might add another dimension to my research with recollections of the sportswriters who covered their games?
I appreciate any advice you might offer and look forward to your next book.

My research has progressed quite a bit over the last three years and I have a good understanding of the social history of the nation during the 20's,30's and 40's, the African American press and, of course, I am familiar with all the secondary literature on the Negro Leagues.
My goal all along has been to publish a book on Mr. Wilson and his role in African American sports and I'm nearly ready to send off proposals to publishers. However, one gap in my research is the recollections of former ballplayers (and as you suggested team officials)and I'm still uncertain about how these former players can be contacted.
Once again your offer is very generous and means a lot to me.
