christobal "there walks a ballclub" torriente, should be the next ball player, elected to the national baseball hall of fame, for the class of 2000…if he played today, he would be considered a "franchise player"…he was that superb of a talent!

Does it seem that there is a bias in favor of pitchers in the Hall of Fame selections? Of the few Negro League stars that have been inducted into the Hall, there would seem to be an inordinate number of pitchers..Satchel Paige, Willie Foster, Rube Foster, Bullet Joe Rogan, Smokey Joe Williams.
I'm not suggesting that any of those inducted did not have Hall of Fame credentials, just that the percentage of pitchers seems to be higher than one might expect.

If one is to look at the whole picture, since bsaeball is 50% pitching (or the combo of pitching and defense), the # of pitchers elected is just about right if not a little light. Remember too,that Rube Foster was elected for his varied contributions, of which pitching was just the start. Bullet Rogan on the other hand was a great player at any number of positions (Like M. Dihigo), and could just as esaily be listed under position players. I think the Hall has done a fair job (if belated) in their selections, though there are many more still waiting.

I am glad to see that my compatriot is supposed to be the next in the Hall of Fame, but I am coming with a question:
Why is the so-called Black Diamond, the pitcher José De La Caridad Mendez so much ignored in the discussion of the Negro Leagues and obviously unknown for the Committee of the Hall of Fame? I think that he was an exceptional pitcher for his time and his name should be together with other Negro Leagues'outstanding players. I am sure that you have a lot of information of what he did in his time, so I will appreciate to see his name glitering with the rest of the Negro Leagues'stars.
