Researching sportswriters, W.Rollo Wilson in particular, who covered the Negro Leagues. I've read many of the stories and columns from the major papers of the time including the Pittsburgh Courier, Baltimore Afro-American and the Chicago Defender. Does anyone know of additional resources?

Wilson wrote primarily for the Pittsburgh Courier and the Philadelphia Tribune between the early '20's and his death in 1956.
I didn't mean to suggest that he was the only sportswriter who interests me; he's not. So I'd be interested in any resources you might know of for Baltimore Afro-American sportswriters too.

What caught my attention about your posting was that you mentioned the Baltimore Afro-American. I recently purchased a collection of newspaper clippings (stories, box scores, pictures, etc) from the BAA that span 1905 through 1938. When you mentioned Mr. Wilson, I thought that I would make it a point to watch for any of his work once I get around to going through these clippings more closely.
So far, I have only had time to put the clippings in order by year and then read a few of the earlier pieces. I hope to eventually try to place them in order within the years and then to read them order. This may be difficult as only some of them were marked with full dates.
If I come across any of Mr. Wilson's writings, I will post another note here. Since he wrote during the 20s and 30s, there may be something in there from him.

Thanks for your reply. Sounds like you acquired an interesting collection. Of course, I would be interested to see any references to Wilson that you might come across.
It's also interesting that you were able to purchase such a complete collection from so many years ago. It must make research a lot more convenient. If you don't mind me asking, how did you come across the opportunity to purchase the clippings?

I will keep you in mind as I go through this collection and will certainly let you know of any references to or pieces by Mr. Wilson. I am in the process of packing to move into a new house next month, so it may a little while until I get back to this endeavor.
While I wouldn't call this a complete collection, it is a great group of pieces. There are almost 300 (292 I think) separate clippings. It is quite a mixture of box scores, game accounts and standings and other stories. Most cover the Baltimore Black Sox, but there are also articles about the Baltimore Elite Giants, Brooklyn Royal Giants, Lincoln Giants, and numerous other teams who played and visited in the area. The earliest is 1905 with the majority being from the 20s and 30s. I think the latest is around 1938.
I had been looking for an opportunity to do some research in some area of Negro League Baseball History, but had not picked anything specific, when I came across this collection. I came to know about this collection by pure dumb luck. I work with somone who travels a lot and is always antiquing. He knew of my interest in baseball and Negro League memorabilia and always keeps an out for interesting items that I might be interested in. Well, he happened to be reading messages on a discussion group for collectors of postal memorabilia when he saw a note about these old newspaper clippings about negro league baseball. There was really no interest from members in that discussion group, but my co-worker thought I might be interested so he passed my email address to this person and gave his address to me. After some investigating and negotiating, we finally came to agreement on a price. The gentleman mailed the clippings to me in the same cigar box that they had been kept in since he bought them at a flea market in Harrisburg, PA a few years back. They are not a treasured part of my collection.
I appreciate your offer for help and to answer questions. I will keep that in mind and may take you up on that offer.
