At 1:30 PM, Todd Bolton, the curator of the exhibit, will present a lecture on the exhibit contents and historical significance. Several former players will also be on hand to answer questions and visit with fans. The exhibit will continue to be open to the public through April 30, 2000. Hours are Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, 5-8 PM and Sunday, 1-6 PM. The exhibit will be closed on Good Friday and Easter Sunday.

Latinos have been honored among the immortals at Cooperstown as integral to the history of the “national pastime.” But, it wasn’t always that way. During the first half of the century, the majority of Latin American players were excluded from the major leagues, obscured by the veil of prejudice. Along with African Americans, they were barred because of the color of their skin. As a result, for over forty years Latin American athletes competed and excelled in the Negro Leagues.

This exhibit follows Latin American players from the early days of barnstorming teams, through the decades of Negro League baseball. Highlighted are many of the great Latin American athletes and the Negro League records that they hold.

Admission is free. However you must register for the opening reception. The exhibit is located in an accessible site, and the services of a sign language interpreter may be provided, at no charge, with notification of need made at least two weeks in advance.
