Former Monarchs’ Star “Lefty” LaMarque Has Passed Away
Missouri southpaw was solid mound performer throughout the 1940s

Negro League Baseball Dot Com has learned that James "Lefty" LarMarque, former star pitcher with the Kansas City Monarchs, passed away on January 15, 2000. Details of his passing and memorial services are not known.
A southpaw pitcher with an uncommon fastball, LaMarque joined the Monarchs in 1941 and remained a stalwart of the staff throughout the decade. In 1946 he led the Monarchs to a pennant winning season and took the mound twice during the Negro World Series. LaMarque twice represented the Monarchs in the East-West All-Star Game, and was the Negro American League ERA leader in 1948.
During his career LaMarque often played winter ball in Cuba, Puerto Rico and Mexico.
