Grand Opening Of Leon Day Park Set For June 10
Baltimore dedicates 15 acre park to Negro League legend.

On Saturday, June 10, 2000 the Mayor and Citizens of Baltimore will come together to dedicate a newly completed 15-acre recreation park to the memory of Negro League legend Leon Day. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.
Activities begin a community parade to the park beginning at 9:00am. The departure point for the parade will be 2600 Edmondson Avenue, and the parade will proceed to Popular Grove, then to Franklin Road and to the park.
The dedication ceremony will begin at 10:00am. City and state officials will join Mrs. Leon Day, members of the Baltimore Orioles, former Negro League players for the presentations and performances.
The 2nd Annual Leon Day Little League Baseball Tournament will follow the dedication ceremonies. The day will also feature adult slow pitch softball games for both men and women and activities for children and seniors. Fans will be able to purchase Negro League memorabilia and autographs.
On Friday evening a Sponsors/VIP reception will be held in honor of the Negro League Baseball Players. Tickets are $35 each.
