Joshua “The Brute” Johnson Has Passed Away
Former Negro Leaguer also a respected educator.

Known as much for his efforts in the field of education as for his years with some of black baseball’s most memorable teams, Josh Johnson passed away August 12th after an extended illness. During the 1930s and 1940s Johnson played behind the plate with the Homestead Grays, New York Black Yankees, Cincinnati Tigers and Brooklyn Royal Giants.
After military service in World War II, Johnson earned his B.S. and M.Ed. degrees and served many years in the Missouri state department of education.
