Team Notes:
Traveling as an independent club prior to the formation of the Eastern Colored League in 1923 the Black Sox became a formidable team in the late 1910s. Though the team foundered in the Eastern Colored League, it came into its own in the American Negro League of 1929 and captured the league pennant. The team enjoyed another championship pennant in 1932 while besting all other clubs in the East-West League.
In 1933 the team entered Gus Greenlee's new Negro National League, playing their home games at Bugle Field, but lasted only a single single. A new team using the Black Sox name entered the NNL in 1934 but found little success and disbanded after that season.
